Saturday April 8th 2017 is the opening of Wirral Youth Zone – The Hive and to mark this occasion we are counting down 100 days until the big day!
TODAY marks exactly 100 days until the grand opening of Wirral’s new Youth Zone where years of planning and hard work will come to fruition. From planning permission being granted back in July 2015, to the spade going in the ground five months later, it’s been a long, but successful road. Two years down the line and those iconic milestones in the birth of Wirral Youth Zone are a distant memory as the building edges closer to completion, the Hive naturally is fast approaching its opening in April 2017.
The 100 day countdown, the final major milestone before opening, will kick off a number of key events leading up to the Youth Zone opening date. A host of events for young people and the community will be on offer to preview and test out the building. From a launch event in the new year and young people working on the interior design of their Youth Zone, to time capsule competitions and taster sports and music days – it’s an exciting time for the community. If you want to get involved in any of the pre-opening events, please email Head of Youth Work Adam Mellor on: adam.mellor@thehiveyouthzone.org.
Volunteers will be crucial in the pre-opening phase. The Hive needs to recruit 100 dedicated members of the community to make sure they deliver the best service for Wirral’s young people. They recently recruited their first batch of volunteers, but they now want YOU to join them too. If you have a passion for working with young people or simply want to give a little back by helping out in an admin or kitchen role for example, The Hive want to hear from you, contact Volunteer and Training Manager Sam Curley on: sam.curley@thehiveyouthzone.org.
The Hive, Wirral Youth Zone’s Chief Executive Stuart Barnes said: “If you have had the opportunity to see the site of ‘The Hive’ on Bright Street in Birkenhead you will have seen externally the building is nearly complete, with internal fittings now well underway. With our crucial volunteer campaign underway and the 100 day countdown kicking off, it’s a hugely exciting time. As we continue to move forward, there will be so much to get involved with and we are keen to work in partnership with the local community so please do get in touch and let’s work together to deliver a better future for the young people of Wirral.”
Wirral Youth Zone will offer a multitude of activities and services will help raise the aspirations, improve the health and well-being and enhance the prospects of an anticipated membership of over 3,000 young people across Wirral.
The Hive will cost £1million per year to run and this will be through a combination of public sector and private sector funding. 50% of the running costs has virtually been secured through the local business community, but we still need more. Becoming a Founder Patron of The Hive is a chance for the local businesses and philanthropists to make the difference to the lives of young people and the future of a prospering region. Their support and endorsement of the project will lead the way to encourage others to invest in the future of the borough’s young people. For more information about how to get involved please contact: Kate Thomas on kate.thomas@thehiveyouthzone.org.
