Young people from the Hive have been following the “My super power is…” template to decorate their own set of 25 umbrellas from the ADHD foundation as part of the ‘Umbrella Project’.
The Umbrella Project 2019 celebrates the gifts, talents and employability of those who are neurodiverse. The Project is part of a wider education programme that celebrates neurodiversity, by raising awareness and challenging stigma and discrimination. The umbrellas celebrate the unique gifts of every child. Each umbrella is signed by a child stating “My Super Power is…”
Devised by Liverpool-based ADHD Foundation – the largest user-led ADHD agency in Europe – each of the umbrellas have been signed and decorated by neurodiverse children from across the city, who have been asked to state their gifts, talents and abilities – their ‘super power’. The project aims to flip the disabling perception of neurodiverse individuals on its head, and instead, celebrate cognitive differences.
ADHD, autism, dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia and dyspraxia all sit under the “umbrella” term of neurodiversity – hence the idea for Umbrella Project was born.”
On Sunday 14th July at 11:30 we will have a celebration event to unveil our umbrella installation. Edge of Seventeen and the Junior Dance Troupe will be performing. We will also welcome Emma Weaver Early Years Lead at the ADHD Foundation who will be coming along as part of the event.
