Young people have ALWAYS been at the heart of everything we do and this last year only heightened the importance of youth work.
The mental health and wellbeing of young people has been negatively impacted. Restrictions left them feeling uncertain about their future, isolated at home away from their support networks, and unable to socialise with friends.
The Hive has always been a lifeline for so many and during the pandemic, it became apparent we were needed more than ever. In response to this, we launched our isolation project with the aim to reach those isolated at home and engage them in positive activity.
Young people could request a pack of resources, choosing from four different options: arts, sports, cooking, and sensory.
Each pack contained the appropriate equipment or ingredients needed so that young people could follow along to our YouTube videos; each category having at least eight different sessions created by our Hive team.
Our isolation packs were delivered by our team, allowing us to provide much-needed youth work support to vulnerable young people, from a doorstep catch-up to welfare calls and emails to check on their progress.
Our online content of fitness challenges, cooking sessions, and art workshops remain available so that young people can continue to get involved, you can find them at http://bit.ly/Hive-at-Home
Although our Hive building is situated in Birkenhead, we delivered over 1000 packs across the whole of the Wirral and even received requests from over the water in Liverpool.
We were overwhelmed by the demand for these packs. We really appreciated the lovely feedback we received and photographs of happy young people proud of their creations were a joy to see.
“Thank you so much for the art pack she was so happy and overwhelmed. She’s been really struggling lately and feeling very emotional and fed up, it was lovely to see her smiling and so excited to have received this pack. Once again thanks so much”
This project was made possible due to the funding we received from DCMS, Community Match Challenge.
A huge thank you goes out to our Hive team who worked tirelessly to make sure young people had the support and resources they needed to stay active and entertained while isolated at home.
