Members give Home Office Minister a tour of The Hive

Minister for Policing, Fire and Crime Prevention, Dame Diana Johnson DBE, paid a visit to The Hive on Thursday – chatting with our young members and hearing about their experiences of youth work and the support it offers.

The Home Office minister toured our building as part of a programme of visits across the North West – getting the opportunity to see some of Thursday’s activities for seniors and to sit down with a group of young members.

The visit came as government continues work to develop the proposed new Young Futures Programme, including exploring the potential to bring together youth workers, mental health support workers and careers advisers in youth hubs in the community – to improve health and wellbeing, routes into employment and to reduce the risk of young people from becoming involved with crime and exploitation.

Our CEO, Jayne Wilson, said: “It was a real privilege to watch our young members Angelos (16), Charlotte (16), Ian (17) and George (14) taking part in a discussion with the minister and leading the visit on a tour – they really are incredible representatives of what we do here at The Hive, and of great youth work in action.

“The activities we offer are creative, inspiring and fun – but ultimately they serve a much deeper purpose: of helping young people to find their passion and purpose, and to make sure every young person who comes through our doors is getting the right support, skills, encouragement, conversations and connections for their individual needs, to equip them for the rest of their lives.”
