Membership FAqs
How do i sign up as a member?
Complete the online form here (don’t forget to use your code if you’ve been given a free membership to redeem). It normally costs £5 for an annual membership.
When can I start coming?
As soon as you’ve completed your membership form.
How long can I come for?
You have to be 8 years old to join as a member, and you can be a member until you’re 19. If you have an additional need or disability, you may be able to remain a member until you’re 25; this is assessed by our youth work team on a case-by-case basis, depending on your needs.
What happens on my first time at The hive?
We’ll give you a tour and, if you’re not coming with friends, we can buddy you up with other members who’ll show you around and help you find your feet. Our friendly youth workers will find out what you’re into and can help you find activities which might be right up your street. If there’s something you particularly want to do, just let us know!
Where do I leave my stuff?
We have a wall of compartment shelves where you can leave coats and bags, and you can also leave them at reception. On juniors and HiveAbility, you can leave your money with our reception team to look after if you’d like to – we‘ll give you a named money bag.
What payment methods can i use?
You can use cash or a card to pay while you’re here but our minimum card payment is £1, so you’ll need to pay your 50p entry fee in cash.
What is there to eat during session?
Cafe Hive offers a tasty menu of hot meals, sandwiches, pasta, drinks and snacks and our tuck shop is open for part of every session.
A hot meal costs £1.
How do I know what's on?
Check out the screens on the wall by reception which show you the full programme, or you can ask any member of the team including our young leaders.
We often have whiteboards outside rooms telling you what’s happening and how you can get involved.
Some activities have limited numbers so we have to work on a first come, first served system – you’ll often find there’s a sign-up sheet to use the climbing wall or training kitchen. Listen out on the tannoy for announcements when things are starting or signing up.
When do i move from juniors to seniors?
Our youth work team will have a chat with you about the right time for you to move up, as you approach your 13th birthday – so that we can make sure you’re getting all the support you need to make the transition to our senior club.
How do i use the pool tables/air hockey/table tennis?
These operate on a turns system: play one game, then if there’s someone waiting, it’s time to hand the table over.
What should I wear for sport?
You need to be wearing trainers to use our climbing wall, sports hall or MUGA pitch. You can wear football boots on the pitch if you like.
Crocs can’t be worn for any sport.
What if I can't pay my membership or renewal fee at the moment?
Talk to a member of our team and we’ll discuss the options open to you.
What is the respect code?
Everyone using The Hive – young people, team members, volunteers and visitors – must respect these groundrules for being here. The code was designed by young people for The Hive:
- Respect yourself
- Respect each other
- Respect the team
- Respect the building
